Rainbow Honey Heisenberg Swatch and Review

Hi guys, happy post-Breaking Bad Finale Monday! I'm hanging on, are you? I'm pretty upset but I know the show ended the way it could only have ended. I'll talk more on Breaking Bad if you want but to avoid spoilers and possible rantings from me, I'll talk nails and news first. So first thing is first - thanks to all of your support, I have taken away the prize for "People's Choice" for Rainbow Honey Outfits contest. Honestly, I can't thank you enough and it came as a huge shock to me. As some of you know, there has been some unfortunate news in my family, and I was away from the computer. This comes as a huge surprise and I am seriously thankful for each one of you who took the time to support my entry. In light of this, I will be hosting a giveaway. I was going to announce it today but I want to have photos of the actual prize and I forgot to do that last night while I was crying over Breaking Bad. So starting tomorrow, I will run a week long giveaway and announce the winner next Monday. I also have a rant regarding social media, mostly pertaining to Breaking Bad but scroll down to read that.

Today I have Rainbow Honey Heisenberg, August's limited edition. As I am writing this, the website seems to be offline for additions (eeee!) so I'll just describe it as a dense mix of silver blue micro glitters, with holo glitters in the mix. I used three coats for my swatch - application was good, but it's sheer enough to layer over another base colour. For example if you'd like more of a blue effect, it would work to have a blue colour underneath. I just used three coats and one coat of Seche Vite:

I loved this colour but I do wish I enhanced the blue by wearing a different blue underneath since Heisenberg's signature was a little more rich in colour, hehe. I wore this the night I got to see Vince Gilligan speak as well as the finale. It was only fitting. Wear wise, I was getting chips on day three but it's fairly common with dense glitter make ups like this - I have the same problem with OPI Teenage Dream.

OK I am going to talk about Breaking Bad.

I might talk about spoilers.

This is your warning.

OK, you're ready?

OK me too.

"Guess I got what I deserve... Kept you waiting there, too long my love. All that time, without a word; didn't know you'd think, that I'd forget, or I'd regret the special love I have for you, my baby blue."

What a great ending to a great show - possibly the greatest show that we will see in our lifetime. I can't begin to tell you how emotional I was getting through the whole episode. All the closure eased my anxiety from when Walter White admitted he did it for himself to when he did right by Jesse, and died in the arms of one of his true loves, Felina - his lab. A king who died along with his empire.

I've been following Breaking Bad since season one, and I wanted to be mourning all day today, however, I am completely offended by some of the ignorance I've read on Twitter - disregarding the show, making jokes about how the finale will be the first and last episode they watch, how it's "just a TV show". Absolutely disrespectful.

What Breaking Bad was to me was almost spiritual. I was lost at the time of my discovery of the show - I was lost with my craft in photography; I was going through bouts of loneliness; I was a failed storyteller. Every Sunday this show would bring a new piece to its overall work, and with each episode would unravel character development, provoke emotions and show off its mastery in cinematography. I've never seen anything like it - a love of flawed human beings.

I know I am not the only person who feels this way.

When people speak ill on social media - Facebook, Twitter, pick your poison - it's not an exercise of freedom of speech, it's a demonstration of a person's lack of restraint and control to seek attention. I speak of a person who has never seen an episode, yet proceeded to tweet nearly all evening, making jokes, and when being called out on, defends their behaviour by saying it's "just a television show".

Television is merely a medium. It could have been a book, a comic, a podcast - but it could have easily been a spiritual connection, which it was for me as a creative person. I do not speak ill or make jokes about another person's religion just because I feel alienated or left out. It's OK to be alienated. You can't be two things at once. When you have nothing to add to a conversation, why not remain silent? Why say anything at all?

If Breaking Bad is not for you - it's fine. Batman is not everyone's favourite superhero. Some love him, some hate him - the fans and anti-fans alike will have something to add. There will be reasons. But when you don't like something simply because you haven't even given it a chance, I find it ridiculous.

The finale to me was a funeral. You don't invite yourself to a stranger's funeral and start yelling asking for people to pay attention to you and not the casket.

When something is as successful as Breaking Bad, it should be studied. What makes it about this show that made it this way? I wish people would think more critically, rather than speak on their own butthurt emotions. I guess I am just old school though: If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it. (Or at least have a good reason, haha.)

How do you feel about the finale of Breaking Bad? Was it everything you had hoped? Are you as excited for Rainbow Honey's next release as I am?

China Glaze Purple Panic (Neon) Swatch and Review

Hey guys, so as some of you may know, I will be hosting a giveaway with some of my Rainbow Honey doubles if I win. At this point in time, I don't count on winning but if you'd like to vote for me, vote for me by liking this photo here.

So for today I've got a polish that you probably haven't seen here. It's a neon polish. I've been feeling quite upset with regrets over the last 48 hours. My grandma passed away yesterday. I am happy that my dad got to see her one last time (he took a clutch flight) but otherwise I've been feeling regretful I didn't visit for the last two summers - I was just so wrapped up in work that I couldn't make it. So I guess that's why this is here today - not a dark colour, but something to keep my spirits up. My grandma was a hard working woman who taught all her children how to be wonderful human beings and in light of that, I want to remember her as just that. Wonderful, lovely.

Enough of the sap. I apologize. Today I've got China Glaze Purple Panic (Neon) which I actually purchased when I first started getting into polish perhaps in 2011. I'm unsure what collection it comes from, even after searching a bit on Google. While the colour is called "Purple Panic", I would tilt this collection to be more in the fuchsia family more than anything else. A neon fuchsia. Formula wise this one went on smoothly with no fuss or pulls in two coats. It dries to a bit of a "waxy" matte finish, which I've shown in my swatch below:

For funsies, I wanted to see how this colour would look glossy, so I added a single coat of Seche Vite. I think it looks fucking WICKED!

I don't think I'll be wearing this polish to the funeral but for now, it does keep me hanging on. What polish cheers you up? Do you have any recommendations?

Born Pretty Store Triangle Stud Rhinestone Nail Art Review

OK guys, here's the deal. I am losing the Rainbow Honey Outfits contest big time. I mean, I have always sucked at popularity contests (hello high school!) but OK, vote for me by liking the photo here. Here's the catch: If I win, I will do a giveaway. Haha, it's the least I could do! Anyway, it's not looking good but if I can get 30 more votes....

Anyway, that's not why I am here. Today I've got a review of my first nail art studs, as well as my first experience with Born Pretty Store. I am sure most of you are familiar with Born Pretty Store and if you haven't, they've been a tried and trusted source for nail art supplies for a fair price and best of all? Free worldwide shipping. Yup, it doesn't get any better than that. If you want to try them out, you can also use my blog's coupon to get 10% off.

My coupon code is: ARBQ10

Here are the triangle nail studs I got from Born Pretty Store:

Nail Art - Triangle Studs

They came in a simple package in a stickied bag for re-use. You can also transfer them to perhaps a pill box with your other nail art supplies. There are about 200 studs in the bag. I didn't bother counting but just by looking at it - I doubt that I'll be needing any in the near future.

To use them, simply brush some polish on your nail and stick them on, sealing them in with top coat. I know everyone has their own method of picking up the studs but I used tweezers to pay down my studs. You can also use an eyeliner pencil.

Here's a simple use of them with OPI Black Onyx. (I dedicate these photos to my girl Q of Squeaky Nails as she loves Gaga just as much as me and this is Gaga's Fame to go along with my nails!)

For funsies, I also tried working some studs with Rainbow Honey Tiny Ruby. My original plans were to have a full highlight nail of studs but as I placed them down, I found that the simple the design is, the better it looked. Sometimes it's OK to keep things simple as they look classy!

I found these studs just really awesome to work with, and upon removal, they didn't damage my nails. They look like metal but they don't scratch the nail or anything. I love em. Glad I picked them up. If you are interested in these, remember you can get 10% off with free shipping on the Born Pretty Store with my coupon code ARBQ10. You can find them here and the item ID is 6879 for the exact ones I have here (in gold colour). They also come in silver if you are into that kind of thing.

Have you used the Born Pretty Store? What are your experiences with them? Can you think of any other designs to do with these triangle studs? I'm feeling a TRIFORCE design coming soon - any Zelda fans out there?

Full disclosure: This sample was provided for an unbiased review.

OPI Pink Friday Swatch and Review (Bonus: Rainbow Honey The Power of Love)

Alright so first thing's first. Please vote for my photos in the Rainbow Honey Outfits contest! I have a few entries but the ones I am gunning for are my Breaking Bad X Heisenberg outfit and my Galaxy Nails X Galaxy Skirt outfit. Please vote for me, it would mean the world to me!

Other than that, today I've got a polish that in the short attention span world of polish, could be a throwback! This is OPI Pink Friday from the Nicki Minaj collection. It is sort of like a candy pink creme, still very vibrant but maintaining an *almost* pastel touch. Almost, not quite. It's still bright, but it's definitely not in your face! Formula wise, this one's great - a self levelling two coater creme. OPI has so many of those and this doesn't not make an exception! Here's my swatch in two coats with no top coat:

And for funsies (this was going to be another entry but I decided against it), here's one coat of Rainbow Honey The Power of Love over top!:

And that's my Crescent Moon Wand necklace from Kuma Crafts!

Anyway that's all for today's Monday - a Pink Friday! Maybe I should have waited? Aw well - my mindset wants it to be Friday! What do you think of OPI Pink Friday? Too vibrant for you? I say it's just right! And please, remember to vote for me for the RH outfits contest! Thanks to any of you who do.

Rainbow Honey Outfits: Summer of 199X Skittles X Pink Cheetah iPad Cover

Rainbow Honey outfits week continues this week! (More details here.) Today I've got a modified nail art of something I've already done and actually tested them out on my mum first! Apparently she got loads of compliments at work and the wear lasted for over a week to boot - not too shabby if you ask me!

I wanted something bright and my Lisa Frank stuff is all in storage but I do have my tacky as all Hell iPad cover, haha! It's a pink cheetah slip cover I got from Urban Planet for $2! At the time I didn't want my iPad 2 to get stolen so I kept it in the the ugliest thing ever. Who would want to steal this?! Anyway I used Rainbow Honey Summer of 199X cremes: Mint Flavor, Apple Kid and Tessie and then sponged on a gradient over top of some white polish for highlight nails. It looks a little Lisa Frank-ish. Not as much as my first but I still like this take as well:

And lastly, here's the awful tacky pink cheetah iPad cover. (See, I bet you wouldn't think about stealing this ol' thing!)

Tomorrow is the last day for your submission to the #rainbowhoneyoutfits contest! Have you made an entry? Would you steal this iPad cover? Haha, I bet you wouldn't!

Rainbow Honey Outfits: Oni and Star Stuff X Deena & Ozzy Wolf Head Checkbook Wallet

I've got yet another Rainbow Honey Outfits contest entry! (More details here.) I don't think it's as nifty as my last two because these are accessories rather than outfits but an accessory is a part of your outfit, right? Right? Ah well. Here's an accessory I sport in my everyday life - my wallet! I got this Deena & Ozzy Wolf Head Walley from Urban Outfitters. My best friend has one too - we've had matching wallets for 10 years!

I used two coats of Rainbow Honey Oni with one coat of Rainbow Honey Star Stuff. Oni's shimmery undertones and Star Stuff's holo boldness really complimented the colour and gold notes on my wallet!

And here's my wallet and nails together! (Kind of a creepy pic but oh well.)

Have you submitted your entry to the Rainbow Honey outfits contest? I am crossing my fingers that I get picked because their Final Battle collection is coming up any moment now! Do you have any matching items with your BFFs? (Or is that too high school? Ah, I don't even care! Haha!)

Rainbow Honey Outfits: Changeling Queen and Heisenberg X POPRAGEOUS BrBa Legz

So just for this week I'll be posting my entries for Rainbow Honey's Instagram and Twitter contest of #rainbowhoneyoutfits where you match your outfits or accessories with Rainbow Honey's polish! (Details on their Facebook page.) I just came back from an extended hiatus so I wanted to start off with something fun other than my regular themed posts. Today I have another entry!

This is Rainbow Honey Heisenberg and Rainbow Honey Changeling Queen to go alongside my POPRAGEOUS BrBa Legz. (Yes, those are Breaking Bad leggings!) I'll do a separate swatch post of these polishes but for now, I have one coat of Rainbow Honey Changeling Queen over top of OPI Jade is the New Black, and then on the highlight nails, I have three coats of Rainbow Honey Heisenberg. Breaking Bad nails are so fun, I am definitely going to have to do more.

And last but certainly not least, my nails against my leggings. I looooooove my POPRAGEOUS leggings! As much as it pains me to say it, I prefer the fit of them far more than Black Milk's and no $45 customs fee to boot!

So much YES in one photo. My fave show on my fave leggings with my fave polish. Well damn!

Did you cry rivers upon rivers of tears after last week's Breaking Bad? Have any of you succumbed into the premium leggings trend? What's your favourite brand and why?

Rainbow Honey Galaxy Nails Set Nail Art

Whew, it's been a while. I had meant to only take a week off but I got caught up in launching another project. Maybe one day I can announce it here, but in the meantime it's still not even ready and it bums me out that teams are so hard to work in and also Breaking Bad bummed me out yesterday so it's really about time I start posting in here again because this was always my escape to talk about anything and to focus on something else. I hadn't even painted my nails since the last week of August, so the smells and the act of painting was all familiar and nice again. Anyway - what better way to come back than with some MORE Rainbow Honey?

Actually, I'll be doing Rainbow Honey polishes all week and you'll see why. But today I have pictures as well as the result of Rainbow Honey's Galaxy Nails set. The set came nicely packaged and came with 5 polishes: Violet, Blue, Black, White and Space Dust, as well as two sponge applicators and instructions. Check it out.

I followed the instructions and kind of just winged it. I am not used to the softer, denser "make up" sponge - I usually use cut up kitchen sponge when doing my gradients. I actually kind of liked it. It gave a much more soft effect. Rainbow Honey also had their own "Violet" and "Blue" polishes which were packed with shimmer, and had a very sheer build up. It was very much made and formulated for galaxy nail art. I used a coat of Seche Vite for an extra glossy look.

I think it sucks there's only two makeup sponges but considering I've used the same chewed up piece of kitchen sponge for gradients over the last few months, I think I could stretch out the use of one for a bit. I can definitely use the other corners!

And lastly, here's my Rainbow Honey Galaxy Nails to go along with my galaxy skirt! Rainbow Honey is holding an Instagram/Twitter contest where you match your nails with your outfits and accessories. Here's one of my entries! They are accepting multiple entries so I'll be doing this all week!

What do you think of the Rainbow Honey Galaxy Nails set? Do you have a preference on what type of sponge you use for your nail art? What kind of matching polish do you tend to do with your outfits?
